It is with enormous personal sadness that we are writing to tell you that our Chairman, Sir Brian Pitman, passed away on the night of the 10th March. He suffered a heart attack on Monday evening at a dinner and had been in intensive care since. Sir Brian was a wise and kind man who became a father figure to us. Those who had the honour of meeting him would agree that he was wonderfully down-to-earth, enthusiastic and interested in everything he became involved in. He loved his involvement in Acturis.
We first met Sir Brian in the summer of 2000 when he agreed to meet with us in his oak-panelled office to hear about our vision for Acturis. At that time he was the Chairman of Lloyds TSB and was regarded as the most successful banker of his generation. We were amazed that he agreed to be our Chairman and Acturis was the only start up venture he was ever involved in. He was very proud of our success over the past few years.
Even in his late 70’s he was as energetic and sharp as ever and combined roles as a Senior Advisor to Morgan Stanley and to the Singapore Monetary Authority, a Director of Singapore Airlines, Virgin Atlantic and Carphone Warehouse as well as a Director of Acturis.
